food for thought..sth i read :
how complex is the functioning of some creatures? In the way they built their houses, in the way they organized themselves as a community. And all this, without self-awareness. And when you put self-awareness into the picture, the human capability for logic, then it is impossible that we are made out of random selection. How can we be such existentially rational beings, with the ability to even place logic behind the most illogical things, and yet be biologically random. Perfect societies (in that societies have form and function, that they work out or not is inconsequential to the point I’m trying to make) from random biology? So our fundamental being is haphazard, our grounding, our foundation is just chance, while the surface is so structured?
Even the most haphazard architecture stands because, and precisely because, it’s grounding is perfect!

another thing that amazes me is how easily ppl recognise each other without even knowing that person's first, 2nd or 3rd names.take the yong tau fu auntie for instant.after seeing me and the guys for like the better part of the year every lunch, i only have to show up at her stall and she will go "ni lai le, ah boy!" and i didn't even hav to tell her i want the kuey tiao with soup..she just gives it to me (sadly, today's the last day she's manning the stall for the year..meaning the last time i'll see her as an NJC student).
another one is the desert stall auntie..though we hardly talk, she recognizes me like i recognize her ice tea or desert.i'll show up and she'll smile and she'll get ready, half anticipating my order...and when i leave the canteen she'll smile or even wave too.how nice is that?
the auntie at the tenderfresh stall at coro (don't berate me cos of the aunties..blame the uncles for not manning the stalls i happen to go to) recognizes me too..and rightly so after seeing me grow up frm a little kiddo in 1999 to an 18 yr old in 2004..and she remembers my disability with hokkien.
the lifeguard at the Chinese High swimming pool is a fantastic example.i'm no water polo player, and definitely no school swimmer in chinese high..yet after 2 yrs of swimming lessons (total of abt 2 terms, once a week each week) he recognizes me even when i cross the bridge to NJ..and we even strike up a conversation as though i frequently join him in his kopi breaks..
but the creme de la creme must go to the lady at the SGH foodcourt sellin noodles.i've only been there once b4 today, weijie and vincent twice b4 today, and the moment we show up she knew exactly our orders even when the only other time i went b4 today was...last friday? how amazing can that be ?!
